Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) is a fairly simple process used to manufacture fiberglass products.
It begins with a two-part, matched, closed mold
system made of metal or composite material.
Dry fiberglass reinforcements are placed into the mold and the mold is closed. Resin and catalyst are
metered and mixed as it is being pumped into the mold under low pressure through injection ports.
Low viscosity resin is used to quickly and evenly permeate the reinforcements before the cure.
The benefits of RTM are impressive. The process produces dimensionally accurate parts with good
surface detail and a smooth finish on all exposed surfaces. This allows for repeatable product
quality and a higher level of manufacturing efficiency.
RTM significantly reduces cycle time when compared to the traditional "open mold" process by the
elimination of most secondary product finishing.
CPI has used the RTM process to manufacture products from aircraft components to aerial lift
platforms and many things in between. Please contact us to discuss how CPI can utilize the RTM process for your products.
